The Royal Navy section of the school’s CCF spent their Field Day at Ampthill Park this term. After making their way through the Bedfordshire countryside, the students located their campsite, breaking out into a verse of Jerusalem as they walked over the hill.

A day of walking ended with the strong encouragement to get established with a tent and make-up some hot food. There was a display of some of the finest banquet/festival-style camping by the Upper Sixth as they tucked into their evening meals. Once, members of the camp indulged in a sing along, vintage tunes seeming to be the choice of the day.

Such moments do not happen without appropriate and proper preparation and the 80 cadets experienced weeks of training, led by senior cadets, in the lead up to the trip. They were taught what correct kit to bring, how to pitch a tent, use a cooker and to navigate correctly with a map and compass.

The Upper Sixth had further prepared by going on a practice trip in January while the Lower Sixth had all prepared PLT activities for while they were away at Ampthill.

Leadership, teamwork, good spirit and a sense of belonging to a wider community outside of your year group bubble were all values on display during this trip.

The school would like to thank Lt Chapman (OiC CCF RN Section), Lt Hall, SLt Willows, SLt Redfern, LtCdr Hardman, Miss Harrison and Mr Guthrie for accompanying the trip, braving the cold and getting stuck in.
