83 Royal Navy Cadets and SCS Boys, accompanied by 13 School staff members, went to Croxley Common Moor, where four friends of Croxley Common Moor had taken the day off work to meet the group on the Moor and helped direct operations.
The boys worked extraordinarily hard all day, as did the staff. They cleared a vast area of scrub, stopping every hour to refuel tired bodies. The Sixth Form worked particularly well, leading teams of boys throughout the day.
The School is ever grateful to staff for leading by their own excellent example – they got stuck in and the boys followed suit. It was great to welcome new colleagues to the Moor, but also extremely helpful to have colleagues who ‘know the ropes’ as several staff members have been before.
Members of the School will be returning to Croxley Common Moor soon for the next volunteer session.
