It has been an energising and inspiring few days across the school, with students engaging in a wide range of activities designed to develop creativity, confidence and future readiness. From senior students planning their next steps beyond Habs to Middle School pupils leading, performing and innovating, there has been a strong sense of momentum and purpose throughout.
Preparing for the Future: Destinations day
Year 12 students from both the Boys and Girls Schools came together for Destinations day, a dedicated programme focused on exploring future pathways and preparing for life beyond school.
Throughout the day, students took part in a series of practical and insightful sessions, including a UCAS briefing and workshops on crafting the perfect personal statement. With guidance from staff, students began drafting their applications, analysing strong examples and building confidence ahead of the summer.
We were delighted to welcome guest speakers from the creative industries, including a Producer and Creative Director and an Old Haberdasherian actor, who shared their experiences and offered valuable advice to aspiring creatives.
The programme also focused on developing key transferable skills. A session on the Art of Public Speaking equipped students with techniques to communicate confidently and effectively, while dedicated guidance on US applications and the Common App supported those considering international study.
The day concluded with a university panel featuring representatives from the University of Birmingham and King’s College London, who offered expert insights on applications and what it takes to stand out.
Our thanks go to Dr Silverman and the Futures team for delivering such a valuable and inspiring experience.
Student voice, culture and leadership
In the Middle School, the programme provided a vibrant platform for student voice, talent and leadership.
The morning began with an address from Vice school captain Luca (12H1), who delivered an inspiring message about growth, participation and making the most of every opportunity.
This was followed by Kaylan (10S2), who explored the richness of Indian classical music, accompanied by a live performance with fellow students – a powerful celebration of culture and creativity.
Innovation and creative thinking
The focus then shifted to innovation, as students embraced hands-on challenges designed to develop problem-solving, teamwork and imagination.
Year 7 students were set the task of designing their own Escape Rooms, moving from initial ideas to fully realised experiences. By the afternoon, classrooms had been transformed into immersive environments, with themes ranging from WWII and pirates to stowaway adventures. The day culminated in students testing one another’s creations, with Year 7 Joblings recognised for their standout design.
The following day, Year 8 students took on a similar creative challenge, approaching Escape Room design with enthusiasm and focus. At the same time, Year 7 students explored a completely different task – creating their own languages. Working in newly formed groups, classrooms became hubs of activity as students collaborated, experimented and brought their ideas to life.
Across all activities, it was clear to see students demonstrating imaginative thinking, strong communication and effective collaboration, as well as the confidence to take risks and try something new.
