On 25th November, Habs sent a team of 5 budding geographers to a debate at Harrow school, on the topic ‘South Asia’s unquenchable thirst.’ The Habs team battled through torrential rain to get there, and immediately started the debate in Harrow’s prestigious debating chamber. Habs were representing Bangladesh, whilst the teams from Harrow were India, Pakistan, Nepal and China.

Each team had to make an opening statement, before an open debate ensued. This essentially devolved into numerous attacks on the regional powerhouses of China and India, both of whom were accused of stealing water and thus hydroelectric power which could bring valuable revenue to smaller countries.

All teams acquitted themselves well, and eventually a conclusion was reached, with international arbitration seemingly the answer. It was a very enjoyable evening with both geographical and debating skills developed by all.
