On Monday 2 November Olympian Samir Barac came to visit the School. Samir has represented Croatia in four Olympic Games as well as the European and World Championships. At the 2012 Games in London, Samir was the captain of the Croatian side that won the gold medal in the water polo tournament.

During his visit to the school, Samir spent time over lunch talking with the senior players before giving another talk in the Aske Hall to a very enthusiastic audience – a mix of pupils and staff from both the Boys’ and Girls’ Schools. He talked about his life and experiences and then gave the opportunity for questions from the floor. These included questions about the highlights of his sporting career as well as how to overcome obstacles, such as balancing education and sport.

His visit concluded with a training session for a number of the boys in Year 7. They benefited greatly from his expertise and technical knowledge and all came away stronger players.

The School would like to thank Watford Water Polo Club for their help in setting up such a successful visit and, of course, to Samir for his invaluable time.
