The School are delighted to report that Dan Gilbey in the Upper Sixth has won first prize in the Royal Economic Society (RES) Essay Competition and been named as ‘Young Economist of the Year 2018’.

Dan’s essay addressed the question “Does Economics have the answer for the global problem of plastics pollution?”. The RES competition attracts the largest field of any of the national Economics essay competitions (nearly 1,300 entries this year), so to win the top prize is a fantastic achievement. Dan will receive his prize before this year’s RES Annual Public Lecture at the Royal Institution in London on Wednesday 21 November.

Congratulations also to Ben Schwarzmann, Upper Sixth, whose essay was ‘highly commended’, placing it in the top 50 entries.
