The Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School has a reputation for offering the very best, world-class education and nurturing excellence across all areas of School life.

Alongside uncompromisingly high academic standards, it is the all-round, holistic education which enables every pupil at Habs to thrive, to develop aspirations and to pursue their ambitions with confidence and energy. Academic excellence very readily sits alongside success in sport, drama, music, art and community service. The School, once again, is therefore delighted to see that the Class of 2019 has succeeded in all areas of educational life.

Habs pupils continue to excel at the top end with outstanding achievements in A* and A grades in all subject areas. The School is delighted to announce that 44% of all grades awarded were A* and 76% of all grades were A* and A; 41 pupils (about 30%) gained three or more A* grades; and 87 pupils (60%) received straight A* and A grades.

With approximately 20% of Habs pupils receiving some financial assistance, the School is enormously proud that its academic and co-curricular opportunities are available to all.

At a time where the arts, creativity and modern languages are increasingly becoming overlooked, 100% of Drama entries at Habs were awarded A*-A, as were all Design Technology, Spanish and Russian grades. Habs musicians have also produced stellar results.

Almost 20% of the cohort have been offered Oxbridge places, with the majority opting for other Russell Group universities, and some taking up places abroad – the US once again proving a popular destination.

Tamilore Awosile, School Captain, has accepted a scholarship place at Stanford University. Tamilore, who is an accomplished saxophone player, was invited into the prestigious Royal Academy of Music’s Junior Jazz Programme. He has enjoyed a successful school career balancing his academics with playing saxophone, despite receiving treatment for sickle-cell anaemia, and was responsible for setting up the School’s African and Caribbean Society and the Black Head Students’ Network.

Tamilore, who was recently featured in The Sunday Times about being School Captain, said: “I am really happy with my grades and excited about what the future holds. I am very grateful for the support of my teachers and parents. It is amazing to see my peers going on to the best and most prestigious universities in the world.”

Sam Pfeffer-Matthews, who has Grade 8 distinction in trumpet and piano, received 2A* and 2A and will be going on to study Engineering at Warwick. Sam said: “I am utterly thrilled with my results. Habs is the perfect environment: the School supports us with our academics but also gives us a wealth of co-curricular opportunities. I have enjoyed performing as the trumpet lead in the School’s Big Band.”

Sameer Aiyar-Majeed, who has Grade 8 distinction violin and clarinet, achieved three straight A*s and is looking forward to studying Natural Sciences at Cambridge. Sameer said: “I feel very happy and very relieved. Thanks to my teachers for their support – they go well beyond the syllabus.”

Ishan Gandhi will take up a place at Stanford University to study Computer Science. He was awarded 3A* and 1A. Ishan said: “I am very excited. I received an unconditional offer from Stanford, but it is still great to finish my school career on such a high note. Thanks to all at Habs!”

Ben Schwarzmann, who is the School’s Vice-Captain, 1st XI football captain, School Council Chair and Chairman of the Jewish Society, achieved four straight A*s. Ben said: “I am absolutely ecstatic that the hard work has paid off. Thanks must go to all my teachers. Habs is great place – the School has helped me receive straight A*s whilst allowing me to play a number of sports.” We wish Ben well as he goes on to study Economics at Warwick.

Dan Gilbey received 3A* and said: “I cannot really put into words how happy I am with my results. I am very relieved and look forward to what the future holds. Thanks to Habs for helping me get here.”

Oliver Russell received 3A* and will be going on to study at Pembroke College, Cambridge. Oliver said: “I am thrilled with my results. I am thankful to my teachers and parents, they have always prioritised my education and invested in Habs, the best school.”

Gus Lock, Headmaster, warmly congratulated the boys. He said: “I am immensely proud and delighted for the boys. They have worked tremendously hard, not only in preparing for examinations, but also on the sports pitches, on the drama stage, in the music hall, and on the many rewarding charity and community events and initiatives at Habs. Congratulations to each and every one of them for their outstanding results, to their parents and families for their support, and to the dedicated staff for their expert teaching and guidance. The boys have developed into confident, compassionate and responsible leaders and will go on to play a positive part in the world. I wish them all the very best for the future and look forward to welcoming them back to the School as alumni.”

Congratulations to the Class of 2019 at Habs!
