On Saturday 19 February 2022, three teams, comprising of three Year 11 students Alex (11M1), Fola (11M2) and Toby (11R2) and three Year 12 students Keshav (L6H2), Zuhair (L6M1) and James (L6J1), competed in the UCL Schools’ Debating Competition, being held at the Institute of Education near Russell Square.
The students debated topics ranging from space exploration to animal testing. A big congratulations to Alex and Fola who got through to the Gold Final and to Keshav and Zuhair who got through to the Silver Final.
Both teams were tasked with debating whether the feminist movement should reject the institute of marriage. Alex and Fola as Opening Government, missed out to a very good Westminster team, but it’s wonderful to report that Keshav and Zuhair as Closing Opposition won the Silver Final.
It all bodes well for the future of Habs’ Debating that we have such depth of talent and it’s a tribute to the fantastic work the students are putting in week in week out.
