Our U15A XV rugby squad took on Gosforth Acadmey in the quarter finals of the U15 Bowl. The away trip to Newcastle Upon Tyne involved an overnight stay, which was a wonderful bonding experience for the team and was so proved as the players emerged on Monday afternoon.
The team started in a confident mood, courageously driving deep into the contact area against their opponents on a regular basis. This attracted the defense to the middle of the field, leaving space available for breaks out wide. Taking advantage of such freedom on the wings, Ore (9J1) was virtually unstoppable all afternoon and got the scoreboard ticking over, his first try coming from a powerful 60-yard burst. Habs scored again shortly afterwards, a midfield break by Robert (10H1) providing a further score cushion for the team.
Gosforth Academy valiantly attempted to stem the tide with some smart interplay, however Habs stepped up to the challenge with their hardwork, pushing forward with the ambition to score again and a further four tries before halftime came to be as a result.
Some superb passes from our backline created further opportunities after the break and, overall, five players scored tries. They were headed by the irrepressible Ore who scored five tries alone!
The team now look forward to the semi finals with real optimism.
Congratulations to all involved!
