40 students and five staff travelled to the Land of Fire and Ice over October half term. The students had the opportunity to see some spectacular volcanic and coastal landscapes and waterfalls and visit some geothermal features. They witnessed several eruptions of “Strokkur” in the Geysir geothermal area and enjoyed an afternoon spa at Laugarvatn which included a dip in an icy cold lake. Activities also included lava tube caving, a glacier hike at Solheimajokull and a walk along the boundary between two tectonic places at Þingvellir which is also the site of the world’s oldest parliament. The group were also treated to two evenings of some spectacular displays of the Aurora Borealis.
