On Friday 10 June, BBC’s micro:bit initiative was launched at Habs as the Year 7 boys used this fantastic technology to solve problems.

Miles Berry, Principal lecturer in Computing at Roehampton University, kicked things off with an introductory talk. Miles was involved in the development of the micro:bit support materials and joined by a number of other educational celebrities from companies like Microsoft. Genevieve Smith-Nunes from ReadySaltedCode also have an inspirational speech to the boys.

Most important were the engineers and Old Haberdashers who supported the boys’ learning, including the aforementioned Genevieve Smith-Nunes, Malcolm Hay from Intel, Craig Parker from Microsoft and Old Boys Ed Nutting, studying computer science at Bristol, and Daniel Manson, PhD student in neuroscience at UCL.

It was fantastic to have the academies, along with the tech companies Microsoft and Inter, helping the inquisitive boys solve problems in their STEM challenges.

It was a truly magnificent day; our Year 7 boys had fun learning and problem solving with technology.
