Olly Hocking (10R1) is part of the UR7s UK National rugby sevens Academy programme – and has been invited to attend a US Collegiate Development Camp in Boston, USA, this year being held at Dartmouth College. The Development Camp brings together talented rugby players from all over the world and gives them the opportunity to train and be coached by top rugby 7s coaches from around the world. The players stay within halls at Dartmouth College, one of the Ivy League Colleges, and give the campers a fantastic opportunity to experience an American university campus whilst being coached.

During the course of the week, as well as rugby coaching, there are a number of sessions focusing on further education opportunities in America, and advice on academic and sport scholarship opportunities at American universities.  This year there are presentations and coaches attending from Dartmouth, Yale, Brown and Princetown universities, among many others.

Sevens rugby is the fastest growing sport in the US, and Alex Magleby, former US Rugby Captain and current Director of US Rugby, will be attending the event and encouraging players to consider further education and rugby development in the US.

Olly, who is taking GSCE PE with Mr Kerry, said: “I have received great sport coaching throughout my time at Habs and am very grateful to the School for supporting my attendance at this developmental event in Boston.”

Olly recently captained the UR7s team to win a tournament in Dorset and this picture shows him receiving the trophy at the end of the event.
