Two Old Haberdashers’ who were coached and mentored by the School’s PE and Games department were selected in their respective squads for the Varsity match at Twickenham today.
A foot in both camps
Sam Schusman (OH 2014), who was in Calverts House at Habs, is the reserve Hooker for Cambridge.
Joshua Navarajasegaran (OH 2015 and staff 2015-16), who was in Hendersons House, was named reserve Hooker for Oxford, before unfortunately picking up an injury and having to withdraw from the squad.
When asked in an interview with the University of Oxford about how he got into the sport, Joshua said: “I wanted to try a different sport, and fell in love with rugby – especially the physicality. Also, I had two great coaches throughout my years at school, Mr McIntosh and Mr Metcalfe.”
Both Sam and Joshua are studying medicine at their universities and are hoping to become NHS doctors. That they can balance their academic studies with playing rugby to such a high level is a testament to themselves and the skills of organisation that they learned at Habs. They are also two very humble and amiable young men.
Congratulations to Sam, Joshua, and the PE and Games staff at Habs upon this achievement.
