The School sends congratulations to Saif Abbas Chatoo, a member of our Sixth Form, for winning The Muslim News Malcolm X Young Person’s Youth Award for Excellence.

The award was presented to Saif at a ceremony at the Marriott Hotel, Grosvenor Square on Wednesday 20 April. Guests on the night included Rt Hon Greg Clark (MP Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government), Rt Hon Angus Robertson (SNP Westminster) and Rt Hon Sadiq Khan – Labour candidate for Mayor of London.

Saif said: “It was a real honour to be nominated and shortlisted, let alone winning the award. I’m delighted and was able to meet some interesting people at the ceremony, too.”

Saif was nominated for his work over the last two years at the Higher Educational Department of the Shia Ithna Asheri Madressa, Husaini Islamic Centre in Stanmore, where he taught weekly GCSE religious studies and prepared a class of students for Public examinations in Unit 8 and 9 AQA religious studies.

He has helped to organise more than 25 enrichment talks and seminars by Muslim and non-Muslim speakers, attended by up to 60-80 students. These speakers have included medics, lawyers, Ministry of Defence employees, politicians, entrepreneurs, ecologists, religious scholars and theologians, discussing interfaith events and those willing to share important life stories. Through his work, Saif was able to send a delegation to Habs Model United Nations.

Well done to Saif for this wonderful achievement.
