On Monday 13th October we were very honoured to have Professor David Crystal, and his wife Hilary Crystal, visit us to officially open the newly refurbished Library.  Professor Crystal is a writer, editor, lecturer, and broadcaster, and now Honorary Professor of Linguistics at the University of Wales, Bangor.  He is a prolific author of so many titles on linguistics and the history of the English Language it is rather hard to keep up with his output, so much so that he published two more books in the time between engaging him for the talk and his arrival!

He spoke first to the 6th form on his book ‘The History of the English Language in 100 words’, and then to the year 11s on ‘txtng’, and the debate surrounding it. After fielding a lot of questions he then officially opened the newly refurbished library by signing two copies of his books, and then had lunch with the Head and invited guests, all of whom had played a part in the refurbishment.
