On Saturday, 5 March, the Schools Bridge Cup took place. With the event taking place online, Habs were able to enter five teams. Our A team of James (L6J1), Zack (9R2), Rufus (11M2) and Marco (11J2) started well, but qualification for the semi-finals looked in doubt after a heavy defeat to Loughborough. A win in the next match took them through to meet Westminster.
After a comfortable win in the semi-final, Habs faced a rematch against Loughborough in the final. After falling 5-0 behind after the first board, all four players played excellent bridge to turn it around and win with ease 44-5.
For James, who also plays for England Under 21, this was his second win and makes up for the disappointment of losing last year’s final. For Rufus, who recently made his England debut, Marco and Zack, it is their first win. It is the 10th win in 13 years for Habs.
