Despite being the one of only three members of the group (an extremely elite group!) for the entire year, Mr Keenleyside has helped make our Friday afternoons extremely enjoyable for all three of us. I got to help with all aspects of the Art department, from putting up the displays and exhibitions, to painting some of the Fine Art cows (and occasionally having to clean up a few paint paletts here and there!). Being a member of the Renaissance Art group and knowing that you are responsible for all the Art displays and Art shows around the school and also for over-seeing the final varnishing and painting of the HABS Fine Art cows now dotted around the school campus is really rewarding and worthwhile.
Not only have I had the opportunity to help with a variety of aspects of helping the smooth running of the Art department this year, but I have also had the chance and opportunity to go on a number of trips and visits during the 3 Field days to different Art galleries in London. These trips have played a valuable part in my Art education this year, seeing art work ‘in the flesh’ is an extremely important element in the GCSE examination. This really has been the highlight of my year and something that I have thoroughly enjoyed. I have been to the National gallery, the National Portrait gallery and the Royal Academy of Art’s to see the Summer exhibition. All of which have not only been interesting and worthwhile, but also great fun, and enjoyable, making every Field day something I look forward to.
Doing SCS Renaissance Art this year has definitely been worth the effort, especially in the summer term when we all helped put up the HABS GCSE and A Level Summer Art Show in the Bourne exhibition area. I do not have a single regret about being part of the Renaissance Art Group, except perhaps having to clean all those dirty paint pallets every once in a while!
