Tuesday 9 October saw this year’s first Drama event and welcomed, once again, the Senior House Drama competition to the stage. Ed Sayer, an OH and first Graduate Drama Director was welcomed back to adjudicate the performances.
Ed awarded Calverts as first place overall winner with their rendition of Paddy Campbell’s Wethouse. Calverts also bagged Best Actor in the Senior School with David Guiloff’s performance of Dinger, as well as bringing home Best Actor for the Middle School with Manish Vekaria’s performance of Spencer.
Overall second place was awarded to Russells for their highly realistic and extremely comedic performance of Circle, Mirror, Transformation by Annie Baker. Russells also brought home the runner up Best Actor for Senior School award for Ed Fage’s performance of Gordon.
Meadows were awarded overall third place for their adaptation of Killology by Gary Owen. The creative direction was commended when Robbie Lazarus and Kishan Ganatra were awarded for best direction. Furthering this, Jamie Goodkind brought home runner up Best Actor in Middle School for his portrayal of Eddie Randall, the bully, and impressed Ed in particular by ‘acting beyond his years’.
Strouts were commended for their rendition of Zero for the Young Dudes by Alistair McDowall. They ended up winning the Special Award, which was given specifically to directors Aaron Garland and Joseph Wolffe for Artistic Vision, as Ed outlined in his speech.
Kudos also goes to Joblings and Hendersons for their outstanding dedication and performances. Joblings opened the evening with their sophisticated exploration into in their rendition of Joe Penhall’s Blue/Orange. Using only three cast members, Guy Rapacioli’s directing was mature, yet highly intriguing.
Hendersons followed their performance with their adaptation of Hymns by Chris O’Connell. They really nailed the powerful message of the play and handled the issues sensitively and maturely. Their relationship shone.
Overall, the evening was a huge success. With a massive thank you to Ed and the Drama Department, the boys were able to express themselves through the medium of performance and overall come together to celebrate themselves and their houses
