On Thursday 17 August, Headmaster Peter Hamilton extended the warmest congratulations to the 2017 Upper Sixth for, yet again, achieving stellar A-Level results. An exceptional 24% of the year group achieved 3 or 4 A* grades across the full range of subjects from Maths and Physics to English and Drama. 35 take up places to study competitive courses at Oxford or Cambridge.
With an outstanding 83% at A*-A grades this is the second highest set of A-Level results for five years. Up to 72% achieved A*s in Further Mathematics, Politics and Philosophy whilst over 50% taking English, Drama and Physics achieved A* grades. We continue to see exceptional results in the full range of Modern Foreign Languages on offer at Haberdashers’, which are essential in preparing students to take their place in an increasingly global sphere.
Peter Hamilton said: “We are immensely proud of the boys’ successes, which owe much to the expertise and dedication offered by our outstanding staff. Our small classes and world class facilities ensure that boys have unrivalled opportunities and choice to explore and excel, whatever their individual talents and interests. In addition, the dedication of our pastoral staff in supporting every boy through the School is thoroughly reflected in our students’ achievements.”
The terrific results are once again viewed against a backdrop of superb performances in sports, drama, art and music. Alongside their impressive academic successes, the students’ engagement in the School’s diverse co-curricular pursuits and extensive leadership opportunities has produced a cohort who are ready to take the next step towards becoming future leaders of our society.

Particular congratulations must be extended to the senior three boys: School Captain Bruce Parris and Vice-Captains Zak Wagman and George Lawrence, who achieved an impressive straight 11 A*s between them, whilst making a very significant contribution to School life.

Bruce Parris, who achieved 4 A*s and will be taking a place at Oxford to study Physics, said: “I’m really happy with my results – I’d like to thank the teachers for their support. They have always been here to help, inside and outside of lessons. I’ve loved my time at Habs – it’s a very special place. I’ll be sad to leave the School, but I’m now looking forward to Oxford.”

Zak Wagman received 3 A*s and is going to Warwick to read History. Zak said: “I’m delighted with the grades! It’s nice to see hard work pay off. The teachers have been excellent, they have worked extremely hard to help the whole year group achieve such outstanding results.”

George Lawrence has been awarded 4 A*s and will be studying Economics at Durham. George said: “I’m very excited to know I’ve got into Durham. Staff at the School have supported me, especially with my coursework. They’ve put in extra time and I cannot thank them enough.”

Nikhil Dawda, who achieved 3 A*s and 1 A and will also be taking up a place at Imperial College London to study Aeronautical Engineering, said: “I’m delighted with my grades and relieved that my hard work has paid off. The teachers at Habs have been very supportive throughout. It’s been 11 years well spent and I’ve always been constantly learning. I will miss the community feeling at Habs.”

Krishiv Desai, who received 3A* and 1 A and will be going to Imperial College London to study Theoretical Physics, said: “I’m very happy with my results. I’d like to thank my parents for the support and encouragement they have given me and a special thanks also to my teachers for their hard work and help. Habs has been amazing as is full of great people. It’s been a thoroughly enjoyable experience.”

The School wishes all students well as they embark on the next step of their academic careers. They continue, without exception, to go to the top universities including Oxford, Cambridge, Bristol, Durham, LSE, UCL, Imperial College and Warwick to pursue the most competitive of courses. The boys are exceptionally well prepared to pursue their dreams and aspirations beyond Haberdashers’ and to continue to contribute to their communities, knowing that they have had the surest of foundations. They are always welcome back to visit and will always remain part of the growing Habs community.

Congratulations, boys!
