On Sunday 16th November, James Lockwood, the current Herts’ Schools’ U18 champion, travelled up to Leeds to take part in the British Schools’ National Orienteering Championship at the historic Temple Newsam Estate. Next year the World Schools’ event will be taking place in Turkey so Sunday’s event doubled up as the trial for the British team with the top five runners qualifying for the team. James finished a highly creditable thirteenth.

This event is the latest in a varied term for the orienteers who this season have competed in the London urban event, the South East Night Championships at Knole Park in Sevenoaks and a demanding weekend on Dartmoor as well as the usual Herts’ Schools’ fixtures.
