On Friday 7 June the Year 3 boys got to experience domestic life in a 1940s school and village. The boys imagined life as an evacuee in a school classroom where conditions and teaching styles were very different from today. Each boy took notes using a fountain pen and ink, and experienced the sound of the air raid siren, putting on gas masks and taking cover.
In the afternoon, some of the boys served in the 1940s cafe and others went shopping with ration books and shillings. A handful of the boys also participated as the shopkeepers, running shops with the rationed food, crossing off ration booklets and checking ID.
At the end of their day, the boys reflected on their experiences and felt they had a far better insight into the life of a child during the Second World War.
