On Friday 17 June, our Year 9 boys participated in a thoroughly enjoyable and thought-provoking Field Day.

Paralympic football star David Clarke opened the day with a truly inspirational speech in the Seldon Hall on his life as blind footballer. The boys listened intently to his motivational and witty talk.

Lt Hutchinson, a serving officer in the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, then continued with the theme of practical and personal leadership, introducing his team of five soldiers including a jungle survival instructor.

Around 170 boys then completed a full day of activities which included a series of practical teambuilding and leadership tasks delivered by an external company, blindfold football coaching with David Clarke, an assault course acquaint session, and instruction in survival techniques by our guests from the British Army.

This was an ambitious and most enjoyable day with a strong practical focus, made possible by the support of 24 of our staff and the high quality of our Year 9 boys. Thanks must go the Mr Hall, Mr Ward, Dr Harrison, Mr Bass and Mrs Muller for their invaluable help in organising and running the Year 9 Field Day, the themes of which were leadership, teamwork and resilience.
