The start of the expedition season marks more than a date in the diary – it signals the beginning of challenge, growth and discovery. Over the past two weeks, our students have taken part in two Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award training expeditions, and we are delighted to report that both were resounding successes.
Despite less-than-ideal weather during the first expedition, our students showed real courage, adapting to the conditions with resilience and positivity. The second expedition benefited from clearer skies, but across both experiences the same qualities stood out: curiosity to explore new environments, ambition to push personal limits, and a powerful sense of community as students supported one another every step of the way.
Throughout the expeditions, students demonstrated focus, commitment and enthusiasm. Watching them grow in confidence and capability, navigating unfamiliar terrain, making decisions together, and reflecting on their progress, has been a genuine privilege. They represented the school superbly and should feel enormously proud of what they achieved.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award continues to be a cornerstone of our Outdoor Education programme. While a great deal of work happens behind the scenes to bring these expeditions to life, the rewards are always visible: students discovering what they are capable of, strengthening friendships and reaching milestones that will stay with them long after the expedition ends.
