CCF Annual Act of Remembrance and Parade 2019

On Friday 8 November 2019, the CCF at Habs held its Annual Act of Remembrance and Parade on the Aldenham House croquet lawn, attended by Old Boys, former and current staff, parents and current pupils. This year, we especially commemorated the commencement of the Second World War (1939-1945), but we remember those Old Haberdashers’ and staff who gave their lives in the service of their country.

In the morning, our Prep School boys lined up along the edge of the croquet lawn to listen to Senior School pupils, along with Reverend Brandon, and reflected on the lives of those who had fallen during war. Cadets from the Navy, Army and RAF stood to attention as the Prep boys remained in respectful silence and a wreath was laid by Head of Preparatory School, Mr Rossetti and two Prep pupils at the School War Memorial.

Later in the day, we were delighted to welcome Old Boys prior to the parade, to the Old Refectory for hot drinks and cakes to warm them against the brisk autumn wind, before heading out to the croquet lawn, where the current CCF boys stood to attention, awaiting the arrival of the CCF Contingent Commander Lt Col Woodall and Reverend Brandon who began the service.

Boys from the Navy, Army and RAF read the names of Old Boys who had died in the service of their country prior to the sounding of The Last Post. A respectful hush fell across the parade ground for a moment of silence, with the Old Boys and members of the School community standing to attention in unity with the CCF.

Wreaths were laid at the School War Memorial by Headmaster, Mr Lock and President of the Old Haberdashers’ Association, Mr Blessley.

Following the service, staff and pupils from the CCF joined the Old Boys and members of the School community in the Old Refectory for afternoon tea, where memories and experiences were shared.

It was excellent to see the current CCF boys engaging with CCF members from the past.
