The Mathematics provision at the school continues to flourish, with students achieving remarkable success across national and international competitions. From elite mathematical modelling challenges and prestigious team trophies to our Senior Boys and Girls’ schools events that ignite enthusiasm for advanced mathematics, these achievements reflect both exceptional student ability and the rich range of opportunities on offer.
International Recognition: M3 MathWorks Challenge 2026
One of the most exciting highlights so far has been the success of our first mixed Year 12 team from Habs Boys’ and Habs Girls’ Schools in the M3 MathWorks Challenge 2026, an internationally recognised mathematical modelling competition run by SIAM.
After completing an intense 14-hour continuous modelling challenge in February, the team’s solution was selected as one of just three worldwide finalists, earning them an invitation to New York City. There, they will present their work in a bid to win between $1,000 and $3,000 in scholarship funding for the Technical Computing Award.
Congratulations to Anika (12 JYB/SGK), Arav (L6H1), Aarav (L6H3), Sofia (12 JZC/JVM) and Aarav (L6H3) on this outstanding achievement.
Reflecting on the experience, Aarav shared:
“The M3 Challenge pushed us to think deeply, collaborate under pressure, and trust each other’s ideas and innovation. There’s nothing quite like the moment when a solution finally clicks just before the deadline. More than anything, we came away stronger as a team and more confident in tackling real world problems.”
This achievement showcases not only advanced mathematical thinking, but also teamwork, resilience and the ability to apply mathematics to complex real world contexts.
Team Success: Hans Woyda Maths Competition Champions
Further success came in the Hans Woyda Maths Competition, where the school’s team travelled to the City of London School to compete in the final against Sutton Grammar School.
We are delighted to report that the team emerged overall winners, bringing home the Hans Woyda Trophy after an impressive display of problem solving, speed and mathematical insight.
Huge congratulations go to Charlie (9S2), Joseph (11R1), Richard (L6R3) and Jincheng (U6J3) for this exceptional team performance, which highlights the strength of collaborative mathematics and strategic thinking developed through the school’s enrichment programme.

A Thriving Mathematical Culture: Integration Bee 2026
At the heart of the school’s mathematical life is a strong sense of community, exemplified by the Integration Bee 2026, which captured the imagination of students across both schools at the end of last term.
The competition began with 92 entrants, progressing through 84 fiercely contested matches over six weeks. The final event, held in a packed Bourne Hall, saw students from all year groups come together to watch the Quarterfinals, Semifinals and Grand Final, joined by former students returning to support the next generation.
The final eight competitors demonstrated remarkable composure and technical skill: Noaz (L6S1), Joshua (13R1), Zakaria (13M3), Aaryan (13H3), Laksh (13M3), Nazim (12S3), Jack (13S3) and Mark (13R3).
After a gripping final, Laksh emerged as Integration Bee Champion 2026, following an intense head to head that had the audience on the edge of their seats. The event was a powerful celebration of advanced mathematics, school spirit and intellectual curiosity.
A Mathematics Education That Goes Further
Together, these successes paint a clear picture of a mathematics here at Habs that challenges, supports and inspires. Students are encouraged to:
- Tackle advanced and unfamiliar problems, building their resilience.
- Work collaboratively under pressure, developing a sense of community.
- Apply mathematics to real world and abstract contexts, working towards the future.
- Compete at the highest national and international levels.
- Share a genuine enthusiasm for mathematical thinking.
Whether presenting solutions on an international stage, lifting national trophies, or thrilling audiences with lightning fast integration, students are developing confidence, creativity and resilience that will stay with them well beyond the classroom.
We are immensely proud of all involved and look forward to seeing where their mathematical journeys lead next.
