Robotics at Habs continues to go from strength to strength, with this season adding another proud chapter to the school’s long-standing success in VEX Robotics. Over many years of competition, Habs Boys teams have consistently demonstrated excellence in engineering, teamwork, innovation and mentorship – this season was no exception.

Our VEX IQ team, Habs Hornets (22903C), comprised of Aarav (9C1), Aryan (9H1), Eric (9M2), Ferdi (9M1), Jai (9C2), Raghav (9H2) and Sebastian (9C2).

Our VEX V5 team, Habs CyberSquad (78116A), comprised of Dylan (10R1), Ethan (10S1), Joshua (10R2), Ian (10M1), Ishaan (10S2), Rohan (10S2), Shaurya (10R2)
William (10C2).

Both teams demonstrated outstanding consistency, innovation and professionalism throughout the season.

Across multiple regional competitions, both teams impressed judges and competitors alike with their high-performing robots, strategic gameplay and exceptionally detailed engineering notebooks – earning silverware throughout.

After a season of strong performances and many award wins, both teams earned qualification to the UK National Championships, competing against the very best teams from across the country for the opportunity to represent the UK at the VEX Robotics World Championship in the USA. We are incredibly proud that both teams secured major judged awards at Nationals.

Habs Hornets (22903C) received the Excellence Award, the highest honour in VEX IQ Robotics Competition. The award recognises overall excellence across all aspects of a team’s performance, combining outstanding on-field results with exceptional engineering documentation, teamwork, communication, professionalism and a student-centred approach to the engineering design process.

Habs CyberSquad (78116A) received the prestigious Design Award, recognising the team’s organised and professional application of the engineering design process, alongside the quality of their engineering notebook, time management and ability to clearly communicate their iterative design journey to judges.

To achieve these awards in both the IQ and V5 divisions is an extraordinary accomplishment and a testament to the dedication, creativity and resilience of our students. The UK VEX scene continues to grow in depth and competitiveness each year, making these achievements especially significant.

After 4 weeks of intense building and teamwork after Nationals, Both V5 and IQ teams started their journey to VEX Worlds 2026.

They were given an amazing trip which allowed them to attend each other’s competitions during VEX Robotics World Championship in the USA, giving every student the opportunity not only to compete, but also to volunteer throughout this prestigious event and develop leadership, communication and technical skills alongside teams from across the world. They were scorekeeping, helping field resets and refereeing skills.

They also represented the school during the Parade of Nations, with our IQ team getting to wave the UK flag.

Dylan (10R1) from HABS CyberSquad and Aryan (9H1) from HABS Hornets welcomed our country’s teams to the competition in the parade, alongside other UK schools such as Queen Elizabeth, North London Collegiate School, Merchant Taylors School, John Lyon School – leading a strong North London presence at Worlds!

Habs CyberSquad began Worlds in impressive fashion, delivering dominant performances within their division and continuing to showcase the engineering quality that defined their season.

Their efforts were recognised with them winning the Judges Award, presented to teams who earn special recognition from the judging panel for qualities not fully represented by other awards categories. As stated to them, the award reflected the team’s exceptional collaboration, dedication to the iterative engineering design process and genuine engineering talent throughout the season. It also highlighted the importance of how well they work together as a team, with each student having a significant impact on their team’s development and success.

For Habs Hornets, Worlds was an unforgettable first experience competing on such a global stage. The team allied with students from across the world, embraced the scale and intensity of the competition and left inspired to push even further next season.
Their experience has already strengthened their focus on the engineering design process as they prepare for the transition into V5 competition.

One of the standout moments of the event was seeing both teams support and champion one another throughout the competition, a fantastic reflection of the collaborative culture that exists within robotics at Habs. Alongside competing, they got to spend quality time together and getting to create amazing memories.

As this remarkable season comes to a close, excitement is already building for next year. Our IQ teams have already begun exploring the newly released game, while members of CyberSquad are stepping into mentorship roles to support and inspire our newest robotics students during the summer term. Congratulations to all of the students involved for an incredible season. We cannot wait to see what comes next.
