Recent contributions and acts of charity work means that Russells’ House is incredibly close to reaching their £12,000 goal. The boys of Russells’ House have continued to swim in The Ironman, which, over the past 16 years, has previously raised £100,000 and covered 712 miles. Meanwhile, individual boys within the House have taken it upon themselves to complete their own challenge. Kit in Year 10 completed the National Three Peak Challenge by climbing Ben Nevis (Scotland), Snowdon (Wales) and Scafell Peak (England) within a 24-hour time frame. Kit’s challenge raised £1,200 which contributes to the grand total of over £10,500 raised by Team Russells so far this year, which includes Gift Aid.
To continue with this good work, and to push on toward their £12,000 target, some members of staff have set themselves a new challenge. During the forthcoming summer holiday, Dr Hobbs (Head of Science), Mr Teague (Physics and 7R House Tutor), and Mr Hardman (Design Technology and Russells’ Housemaster) will be cycling from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean over the Pyrenees in the Raid Pyrenean Challenge. The challenge involves riding 735km and climbing 12,800 metres, all within a 100-hour time frame. This means four-and-a-half gruelling days in the saddle for the staff involved!
Mr Hardman would be absolutely delighted if any of the Haberdashers’ Community could help Team Russells raise the remaining cash needed to tip them over the £12,000 total. Click here to donate.
More recently, the School has received playing and training kits from Arsenal FC and Watford FC. These kits have also been taken to Green Pastures by Mrs Pollock, a learning centre that we are linked with in Uganda, for the children that are residing there. The Habs Charity Committee has also created a poster of the map of Africa with pictures of Habs students for the children at Green Pastures. The Charity Committee has taken to sorting out the kit, which includes hats and footballs, and we are extremely grateful for the donation from the two Premier League clubs.
