Year 3 experienced a fantastic Roman Day immersing themselves in the Roman era. An archaeologist, Jill Eyres, brought in a variety of Roman artefacts for the boys to handle and identify alongside replica Roman coins for them to decipher.

Andy Peck provided the boys with lots of information about the Roman army and the life of a soldier. The boys took part in building a camp in the woods, seeing replica weapons, including a huge shield, and learned battle formations culminating in the re-inactment of a testudo formation that was tested with foam javelins.

The day ended with a fascinating talk about Roman food and the smelling of herbs brought to Britain by the Romans.
